The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has released its annual Public Hospitals Report Card, The Nationals Member for Riverina, Kay Hull, has advised.
The AMA states their Public Hospital Report Card 2009 is an analysis of the most up-to-date national data on public hospital performance plus more recent feedback from doctors working in public hospitals in all States and Territories
“The report is the latest confirmation Labor has failed to fulfil their promise to fix our public hospitals,” Mrs. Hull said.
“The AMA have released a statement declaring Australia’s public hospitals continue to be seriously under-funded and are struggling to meet growing public demand for their services.
“In NSW the Emergency Department performance for category 3 (urgent) patients is down and elective surgery waiting time is longer, in comparison to 2009-2007 figures.
“The only glimmer of improvement is with the percentage of category 2 elective surgery patients seen within 90 days – up by only 1%. 75% of patients are seen within the recommended time - compared to 74% in 2006-07.
“Labor promised Riverina residents they would fix public hospitals by the middle of this year. This report today shows they haven’t even started to make any significant improvements, let alone fixing the system.
“The state of our local hospitals is absolutely no reflection on the dedicated and hard working staff, only the mismanagement of NSW Labor Government and the inability of the Labor Government in Canberra to take action,” Mrs. Hull said.
