International Women’s Day will be celebrated on Monday March 8 in the Riverina, across Australia and around the world.
Australian women are high achievers in many fields from public life to science, the arts, sport and politics, said The Nationals Member for Riverina, Kay Hull.
“They are CEOs, farmers, doctors, police officers, nurses, hairdressers, professors, musicians and a thousand other occupations. Australian women make a massive contribution to the economy through paid work, keeping the home-fires burning, caring responsibilities and volunteer contributions,” said Mrs. Hull.
“Women have had the right to vote in Australia since 1902 federally and have experienced huge changes in their lives, the way women work, literally replacing men in industry in the First and Second World Wars, taking up education opportunities, gaining access to equal pay for equal work 40 years ago and since then juggling family, jobs, home and community.
“International Women’s Day is also a time to remember the women in the world who are still fighting for equal rights, and who are discriminated against because of their gender,” Mrs. Hull said.
